Yes, tis true. As a young, broke, songwriter, Neil Diamond saw a photo of a young Caroline Kennedy in a news magazine, and told himself – “Self, there’s a song there someplace.” Years later in a Memphis hotel room, the song was conceived.

Just last week at her 50th birthday party, the 66 year old Diamond got the chance to reveal to Kennedy that she was the inspiration behind his hit song “Sweet Caroline”.

“I’m happy to have gotten it off my chest and to have expressed it to Caroline. I thought she might be embarrassed, but she seemed to be struck by it and really, really happy.”
